Some hymns are timeless.
I think this is one of those.
I had the honour of facilitating the music at a funeral of a church member this afternoon. She was a woman who loved the Lord and was so full of joy for the Lord – it was obvious in the life she lived but it was also evident throughout her life by all that was said about her by family and friends this afternoon.
While on one hand funerals can be hard and sad, on the other hand Christian funerals are so full of hope and joy. This is because we know that death is not the end of life for a Christian, it is the beginning of their new life! We know that the person is in heaven, they are rejoicing with our Lord, they are worshipping in the throne room, there is no pain, no sickness and no tears. They have joined with the angels and all the saints crying out things like ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty!’ and ‘worthy is the Lamb that was slain!’ Heaven is beyond our wildest imaginations…
I have sung this song on many occasions growing up, but more recently at an 80th birthday party of a family member and then today at the funeral of this wonderful, loving lady. It was hard to not choke up while leading the hundred or more who were gathered to say farewell, because this song was this lady’s life. She knew her Saviour, her soul was at rest, she was filled with, and overflowed in, His love…
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Saviour all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long!
