As I have been preparing to lead the music at our church on Good Friday (25 March 2016), I have been constantly drawn to this song.
On Good Friday Christians remember why Jesus died on the cross – He is The Way. By Jesus (who was perfect, spotless, sinless) being sacrificed on the cross once and for all, He made the way for all of us to come to God. He became the perfect atonement for all sin for all time.
For someone to do that, it can seem ludicrous in our carnal mind. But that’s the wonder of it. God did it because of His great love and He is full of mercy.
Titus 3:3-7 says (emphasis added):
“Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But when God our Saviour revealed his kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Because of His grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”
It’s because of His mercy…
May I never lose the wonder, oh the wonder of Your mercy
May I sing Your hallelujah, hallelujah, Amen!
