Douglas Lilburn.  Also known as the father of contemporary classical music in New Zealand.

In 2004 I did my Masters of Music dissertation on the ‘New Zealandness’ in his earlier music before he ventured into the realm of creating electro-acoustic music.  Early on in my research I found out that he used to live at Drysdale Station, in the Pukeroa area, near Hunterville, NZ. I lived in Hunterville from the ages of 4-10 and visited Drysdale Station many times because my Dad took church services out there for the farmers who couldn’t get into town.  I loved the scenery and the homestead itself was gorgeous. It made studying Douglas Lilburn’s life and music so much more real for me.

This was one of my favourite of his overtures.
